Everything big starts small. VANLIER is no exception! In 1815, the Van Lier family opened a workshop in Loon op Zand, Brabant, in the heart of the Dutch shoe industry. But competition was fierce, so VANLIER decided to innovate; they traveled the world in search of the best leather, from luxurious calfskin from France to sturdy leather from Chicago. VANLIER experimented with these top-quality materials, developing new techniques, playful colors, and lasts that were both elegant and comfortable. This way, the well-to-do man always got exactly what he paid for!
From shoe factory to international brand
The story of VANLIER begins in 1815, in a small workshop in Loon op Zand—the heart of the Dutch shoe industry. It soon became clear that differentiation was needed in a region full of competition. That is why the VanLier family began a search for the best leather from around the world.
Fine calf leather was found in Le Puy (France), strong grained leather at Horween in Chicago, durable sole leather from England, and stylish, fashionable leather from Italy. From the outset, quality and innovation were central.
Nowadays, traditional craftsmanship is combined with modern techniques. The collaborations with renowned tanneries from the past still exist, while there is constant experimentation with color, shape, and fit. This is how the shoe of tomorrow is created every day.
